Obituary of Adele Ritchie Wall

Adele Ritchie Wall, age 92, of Normandy Farms Estates in Blue, Bell, PA and formerly of Abington died on June 12, 2016. She was the devoted wife of the late Robert B. Wall, for 65 years, until his death in 2010. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late George Moland Ritchie and the late Helen Adele Jacobs. She spent the first four years of her life in the Germantown and Roxborough sections of Philadelphia. She was then raised in Abington, where she remained until her marriage. Adele attended Highland Elementary School, Abington Junior High School and graduated from Abington Senior High School in 1941. While in High School, she was a member and president of the Latin Club, was a Student Council Representative, a member of the Choir and was cast as the Lead in the school play. She began her working career in 1941 as a Secretary for Employers Liability Insurance Company in Philadelphia, she held that position until she married in 1944. She then focused on being a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. In 1966, she reentered the work force and worked briefly for Strawbridge and Clothier Department Store in the Personnel Department before taking a position with Sears, Roebuck and Company in Abington. During her 12 years with Sears, she was responsible for new hire training and administrative duties. She retired in 1978. In 1955, she became a member of Abington Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the choir and had volunteered at the reception desk from 1990 – 1997. Adelle was an avid volunteer. She gave her time as a greeter in the Emergency Room of Abington Memorial Hospital and during her time at Normandy Farms, volunteered with the Marketing Team, Hospitality Table Leader and served a three year term on the Culinary Committee, where she served as Chair and had served a five year term on the Development Committee and served as their secretary. She is survived by her sons and their spouses: R. Bruce, Jr. and Ann Wall and Philip A. and Janet Wall, by six grandchildren and by six great-grandchildren. Her son, Jeffrey D. Wall died in 1978. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 28, 2016 in the Auditorium of Normandy Farms Estates, 9000 Twin Silo Drive, Blue Bell, PA, where friends will be received after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Normandy Farms Estates – Gratuity Fund, c/o ACTS, 9000 Twin Silo drive, Blue Bell, PA 19422.
