Obituary of Winifred C. Braim

Winifred Clem "Winnie" Braim, age 87, a resident of Abington, passed away with her family by her side on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Abington. Winnie was a beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Born January 9, 1928 in Flourtown, PA, she was a daughter of the late David Clifford and the late Florence (Barnes) Clem. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1945, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1949, and was a third grade teacher at Overlook Elementary School in Abington for 13 years. On June 18, 1955, she married her college sweetheart, Joseph E. Braim; they traveled extensively in their early married years and in 1970 settled in Abington to raise their family. Winnie was active in Abington Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, and in the Abington Civic Club and Aid for Friends. She cherished spending time with family and her annual vacations in Ocean City, New Jersey. In addition to her husband of 60 years, Winnie will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Cynthia Pastore, and husband, Michael, of Avon, Connecticut; and Nancy Messner, and husband, Mark, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and by five grandchildren, Lauren and Rachel Pastore and Nicole, Luke and Daniel Messner. Winnie was predeceased by her parents, her brother, David Barnes Clem, and by her sister, Dorothy Clem Speck. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home, 1059 Old York Road, Abington, where the family will be receiving friends and relatives from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001 would be appreciated.
