ANN REESE CLINE, age 84, a resident of the Rydal Park Retirement community since 2005 and a former longtime resident of Jenkintown died on February 7, 2010 at Abington Memorial Hospital.

Born on September 7, 1925 in Coaldale, PA, she was the daughter of the late William Reese and the late Mary Whildin Reese. Ann spent most of her life in Jenkintown, PA, graduating from Jenkintown High School (Red Team Color Leader) as did her two sons, Richard R. Cline of Richardson, Texas, and Jeffrey W. Cline of Jenkintown. Ann and Jeff were instructed by the same 3rd grade teacher and principal at Jenkintown Elementary School.

While a junior at Penn State, Ann met and married a sophomore named Frederick A. (Ted) Cline, Jr. The wedding was hastily planned, so quick in fact that her parents had no knowledge of it. Ann's future father-in-law happened to be in State College that weekend for a Penn State football game, and thus attended the wedding - a fact that infuriated her parents. Nonetheless, a marriage began that lasted 53 years until her husband's death in 1998.

She taught junior high school English and Social Studies but only for a few years, devoting her life mostly to family, church and community. A gifted soprano, she was a soloist with the Treble Singers at Penn State -- an all-girls chorus, and later sang with Abington Choral Club, Jenkintown Music Theater, and the Chancel Choir of Grace Presbyterian Church, her church home for more than 80 years. Her creative talents resulted in the writing of several songs and poems, motivated by love for her mother, arriving grandchildren, and her love of the Lord.

She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and enjoyed playing bridge and tennis during her more active years.

She is survived by her son, Richard, his wife Dorothy, and his children, David Cline of Seattle, Washington, and Michele Tonne of Forney, Texas, who produced Ann's only two great grandchildren to date, Parker and Paige. Her son, Jeff, and his wife Patty, have three children: Michael, Zachary and Allison. She had three older brothers, all of whom preceded her in death.

Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Grace Presbyterian Church, Old York and Vista Roads, Jenkintown. Friends will be received in the Palmer Room of the Church from 10:00 until the time of the service and at a reception after the service, Burial in Whitemarsh Memorial Park will be private. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Grace Presbyterian Church, Abiding Memorial Fund, 444 Old York Rd., Jenkintown, PA 19046.
